White Sox could not avoid the A’s defense (Oakland, California) – After yesterday’s White Sox victory, they tried to keep up their momentum by singing hard in the first inning. The A’s quickly shot down the White Sox offense with a double play. White Sox pitcher Dallas Keuchel took the mound to close the inning with no damage. In the top of the 2nd inning the White Sox were caught in another double play that brought it to the bottom of the 2nd. In bottom of the 2nd A’s batter Matt Chapman crushed a solo home run to left field to cement the first run of the game. In the top of the 4th inning the White Sox once again grounded into a double play to advance the game. In the bottom of that inning A’s batter Yan Gomes hit an RBI single to extend the lead over the White Sox.
A’s Defense Shuts Down White Sox
In the top of the 5th White Sox batter Cesar Hernandez reached on a fielder’s choice that put the first run on the scoreboard for the White Sox. In the bottom of that inning A’s batter Matt Olson hit an RBI single leaving the White Sox 2 runs behind. In the top of the 6th all 3 White Sox batters were struck out swinging. In the bottom of that inning A’s batter Chad Pinder hit an RBI triple that resulted in a pitching change by the White Sox. The White Sox brought in Jose Ruiz in an attempt to close the inning with minimal damage. Ruiz threw to A’s batter Elvis Andrus who hit another RBI single that brought the score to 5-1 Athletics by the end of the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 8th White Sox swapped pitchers again to Mike Wright who threw for a flyout and 2 groundouts. In the top of the 9th with 2 outs and 2 men on base White Sox batter Andrew Vaughn struck out swinging to close the game. The Athletics beat the White Sox 5-1.
