White Sox crush Cubs in entertaining fashion (Chicago, Illinois) – After traveling back home from Canada, the White Sox faced the Cubs in the city series and started with Dallas Keuchel at the mound to throw out the first pitch of the game. Soon after the first pitch, Cub’s batter Patrick Wisdom hit a 3-run home run. Cub’s batter Robinson Chirinos hit an RBI double to just be brought in later by Andrew Romine, who hit an RBI single.  A throwing error then occurred by White Sox second baseman Cesar Hernandez that let another run slip by. Going into the bottom of the 1st, the Cubs cemented their presence by scoring 6 runs. White Sox batter Jose Abreu hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st.  In the top of the 2nd inning, White Sox pitcher Reynaldo Lopez replaced Dallas Keuchel at the mound.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Jose Abreu hit another RBI, this time landing on 2nd base. White Sox batter Yoan Moncada hit an RBI single that brought Abreu home. Next batter up was Yasmani Grandal who rocketed a ball to right field for a 3-run home run that tied the game. White Sox batter Luis Robert reached on a fielding error to get another run for the White Sox.  White Sox batter Eloy Jimenez singled on a line drive for an RBI single for the last run of the 3rd inning.

A High Scoring Fight

The White Sox quickly took back the lead with the score at 9-6 by the end of the 3rd inning.  In the bottom of the 5th Luis Robert hit an RBI single. Soon after, Yoan Moncada grounded out but secured another run. Next batter up was Yasmani Grandal, who hit a 2-run double that brought the score to 13-6 White Sox by the end of the 5th inning.  In the top of the 7th White Sox pitcher Mike Wright replaced Lopez at the mound.  Wright threw out an 87-mph slider that Cubs batter Michael Hermosillo contacted for a solo homer.  In the bottom of the 7th White Sox batter Andrew Vaughn lined a ball to right field for an RBI single.  Each team scored 1 run in the 7th inning which brought the score to 14-7 White Sox.  In the top of the 8th White Sox batter Garrett Crochet replaced Wright at the mound.  Cubs batter Ian Happ then hit an RBI double.  He was soon brought home after Cub’s batter Jason Heyward hit a 2-run double that brought the score to 14-10 White Sox. In the bottom of the 8th, Yasmani Grandal launched a 3-run home run to right center field that brought the score to 17-10 White Sox. In the top of the 9th inning the White Sox swapped pitchers to Craig Kimbrel in an attempt to close the game. Kimbrel tossed out a 95 mph fastball that was hit by Patrick Wisdom for a solo home run. Cubs batter Ian Happ took the plate to hit a 2-run home run to left center field to narrow the lead. Kimbrel soon closed the inning with a pop out and 2 strikeouts. The White Sox beat the Cubs 17-13.
