The White Sox lose first game of series against the Royals (Kansas City, Missouri) – White Sox decided to start the series against the Royals with Sox pitcher Dallas Keuchel on the mound to throw out the first pitch.  In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Royals batter Jorge Soler homered on a fly ball to center field to cement the first run of the game.  At the end of the 2nd inning, the Royals led the White Sox 1-0.  In the bottom of the 4th, Soler hit his second homer of the night to center field to extend the lead over the White Sox 2-0.  In the bottom of the 5th inning, Royals player Michael A. Taylor was caught stealing 2nd base by White Sox catcher Seby Zavala and threw to White Sox short stop Tim Anderson for 2 outs.  In the same inning, Royals batter Whit Merrifield doubled on a line drive to right field for an RBI double to extend the lead over the White Sox 3-0.

A Triumphant Battle  

In the top of the 6th inning, White Sox batter Andrew Vaughn hit a 2-run single that brought the score to 3-2 Royals.  In the bottom of that inning, Royals batter Andrew Benintendi homered to left field to challenge the White Sox 4-2.  In the bottom of the 7th inning, White Sox pitcher Codi Heuer relieved Keuchel after 96 pitches to 3 immediate groundouts.  In the bottom of the 8th inning, White Sox pitcher Garrett Crocket took the mound for Heuer. At the end of the 8th inning, the score was 4-2 Royals.  In the top of the 9th inning, White Sox batter Yoan Moncada hit a double just for the next batter up, Adam Engel, to hit a single RBI to send Moncada home.  The score was a close 4-3 Royals in the top of the 8th, when White Sox batter Brain Goodwin lined into a double play to close the inning and the game.  The Royals beat the White Sox 4-3.
