Royals take it to extra innings and take the win over the White Sox (Kansas City, Missouri) – The White Sox had momentum going into the third game of the series against the Royals and started with White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito on the mound.  In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Royals batter Ryan O’Hearn grounded a ball into a double play that closed the inning.  The 3rd and 4th innings consisted of many groundouts, strikeouts, and pop outs with both teams displaying great defense.  In the top of the 5th, White Sox batters Andrew Vaughn and Leury Garcia singled to center field.  The next batter up was Danny Mendick, who also singled and gave both Vaughn and Garcia enough time to make it home.  At the end of the 5th, the Royals trailed the White Sox 2-0.  In the top of the 7th inning, Sox batter Leury Garcia was struck out, but Royal’s catcher, Salvador Perez, caught Yoan Moncada stealing 2nd base for a strikeout double play that brought it to the bottom of the 7th.  Royals batter Jorge Soler stepped up to the plate to hit an RBI double that narrowed the game to 2-1.  White Sox pitcher Aaron Bummer was then brought in to relieve Giolito to close out the 7th inning.

A Close Game till the End

In the bottom of the 8th, White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech replaced Bummer at the mound and closed the 8th with a lineout, groundout, and pop out.  In the bottom of the 9th inning, White Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks took the mound in an attempt to close out the game. Royal’s batter Salvador Perez caught a 98 mph fastball for a solo home run to left center field that sent the game into extra innings.  In the bottom of the 10th inning, White Sox pitcher Ryan Burr took the mound.  Royal’s batter Hanser Alberto hit a sacrifice bunt to get Andrew Benintendi to third base with 1 out.  Royal’s batter Michael A. Taylor singled a ground ball to center field to get Benintendi home and close the game.  The Royals beat the White Sox 3-2.
