Orland Park Police Apprehended Armed Robbery Suspects Within HoursĀ (Orland Park) – On Thursday (01/06/22) at approximately 12:45 PM, the Orland Park Police Department responded to an armed robbery in the parking lot of 3 Orland Square Drive. Officers arrived on the scene and met with the victim.
The victim stated that as he walked through the parking lot, he saw a white vehicle moving towards him that was driven by a male who was later identified as Joseph H. McCoy. The vehicle stopped next to him and the passenger, who was later identified as Jeremy Hill, exited and proceeded to grab the victim while displaying a handgun.
When the victim saw the handgun, he attempted to flee the scene, but was struck by Hill with the handgun. When Hill hit the victim, the handgun broke apart. The victim then ran and Hill grabbed the bag the victim was carrying and fled in the white vehicle.
Victim Refused Treatment
Officers located part of the handgun that broke apart in the area of the assault. The victim was seen by Orland Fire Protection District but refused treatment. An investigation began immediately, which quickly lead to the identification of the white vehicle in question. The vehicle is registered to McCoy with an address in Justice, Illinois.
Detectives, along with members of the Justice Police Department, were able to locate the vehicle parked and unoccupied at an apartment building in the 8400 Block of 88th Ave in Justice. While officers were watching the vehicle, McCoy and Hill were spotted approaching.
As the officers exited and identified themselves, Hill and McCoy both fled on foot. Officers pursued and the two offenders were subsequently taken into custody in less than two (2) hours of the crimeās occurrence.
Handgun Located at Scene
A handgun was located at the scene of the apprehension in an unlocked service closet. The handgun was a match to the missing part that was recovered on the scene of the armed robbery.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that McCoy was arrested for unlawful use of weapons in January 2021 and was currently out on bond ($2,000 D) for that offense.
Hill is currently on parole (Armed Habitual Criminal Conviction- Class X Felony) and had an active felony warrant issued in November of 2021 for aggravated fleeing and eluding.
We would like to thank the Justice Police Department for all their assistance in locating and apprehending these two offenders.
