Cook County Commissioner Monica Gordon Accepted into the Prestigious 2023 Cohort of Edgar Fellows (Cook County, IL) — Cook County Commissioner Monica Gordon has been selected to be part of the 2023 class of the Edgar Fellows Program, a highly competitive initiative designed to inspire respectful and collaborative leadership to tackle significant challenges in Illinois. The program, founded by former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, brings together forty public policy leaders from various sectors across Illinois.

The Edgar Fellows Program, housed at the University of Illinois (U of I) System’s Institute of Government and Public Affairs, received nearly 210 nominations, from which the class of 2023 was carefully chosen. The selected Fellows represent a diverse range of political, racial, ethnic, and geographic backgrounds, including elected and appointed officials, leaders of non-profit and labor organizations, and influencers in the business world who are shaping public policy.

“I am eager to collaborate with this diverse, bipartisan group of leaders to address critical issues to solve some of the problems in our great state,” said Commissioner Gordon.

During the Executive Leadership Training Program from August 6 to 10, 2023, at the U of I campus in Urbana-Champaign, Commissioner Monica Gordon and her fellow Fellows will engage with over 30 experienced public policy practitioners. The topics covered in this training seminar include economic development, climate change, supply chain, education, Medicaid, transportation, and intergovernmental cooperation. The program aims to foster mutual learning and relationship-building among the participants, which will impact their careers.

Since its inception in 2012, the Edgar Fellows Program has contributed to the growth of more than 400 Fellows.

The Edgar Fellows Program is made possible by generous donations from individuals, labor unions, philanthropies, organizations, and companies invested in nurturing competent, ethical, and solution-oriented leadership in Illinois. Guided by an advisory board chaired by Alexander Lerner, CEO of the Illinois State Medical Society, the program draws on the wisdom and experience of long-time supporters and former Fellows with decades of expertise in Illinois public policy.

Commissioner Monica Gordon’s acceptance into the prestigious Edgar Fellows Program is a testament to her commitment to positively impacting public policy in Cook County and beyond. As she embarks on this transformative journey, we eagerly anticipate the contributions she will make and the relationships she will build to address the critical challenges facing Illinois.
