Brady throws 600th career touchdown, Bucs pound Bears 38-3 (Tampa, FL) — Tom Brady threw his six hundredth career touchdown pass as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Chicago Bears 38-3 Sunday afternoon at Raymond Jones Stadium. Brady went 20 of 36 for 211 yards and four touchdowns on the afternoon.  Three touchdowns were to wide receiver Mike Evans, including record setting number six hundred.

Chicago dug themselves into an early hole, down 21 to nothing at the end of the first quarter.  The Bears never really established anything offensively.  They went three and out on the opening drive, then ran four plays on the next drive before punting.  Fields threw an interception and lost a fumble on the following possessions.

Tampa Bay Defense

Kicker Cairo Santos got Chicago on the board with a twenty-eight yard field goal with just over six minutes remaining in the second quarter.  The Tampa Bay defense didn’t give up anymore points thereafter.  They intercepted Justin Fields three times in addition to forcing the rookie to lose two fumbles.  They also sacked the young quarterback four times. Linebacker Devin White led the defense with 10 total tackles. Defensive back Jamel Dean contributed with 7 tackles.

Fields finished 22 of 32 for 184 yards and three interceptions.  Khalil Herbert had another strong performance with 18 carries for 100 yards.  He also caught 5 passes for 33 yards. 

Leonard Fournette had 15 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown for the Bucs.  Receiver Chris Godwin had 8 receptions to lead the receiving core with 111 yards and a touchdown.  Evans also caught 6 balls for 76 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Bucs improve to 6-1 while the Bears fall to 3-4 on the season.

Injuries

Tampa Bay was without receiver Antonio Brown (ankle), tight end Rob Gronkowski (ribs), linebacker Lavonte David (ankle), and cornerback Richard Sherman (hamstring).

Next Up

Chicago returns home to hose the 49ers on October 31st.

Tampa Bay will travel to New Orleans to face the division rival Saints next Sunday.
