Bears Lose Third Straight, Fall to Vikings 17-9 (Chicago, IL) — Chicago’s offense struggled mightily Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings. Having only scored 3 points in the game until the final play of regulation, along with 3 turnovers and 9 penalties, the Bears somehow only lost by one possession. However, the abysmal performance will certainly lead to more speculation about the future of head coach Matt Nagy, and his tenure with the organization.

After punting on their opening drive, the Vikings scored on their next two possessions. Kirk Cousins connected with receiver Justin Jefferson twice on Minnesota’s second drive, one for an 18 yard gain and then again for a 12 yard touchdown. Bears quarterback Justin Fields lost a fumble that was recovered by Cameron Dantzler, and set the Vikings up in Chicago territory for their third drive of the night. Kicker Greg Joseph would convert a 37 yard field goal to put Minnesota up by ten.

Chicago went three and out, followed by consecutive turnovers on their first three drives. On their fourth possession, they went on a 12 play 49 yard drive that lasted nearly six minutes and resulted in a Cairo Santos 34 yard field goal.

Minnesota led Chicago 10-3 at halftime

Chicago didn’t do much in the second half other than punt and turn the football over on downs. Fortunately for Bears fans, the Vikings didn’t run away with the game. Cousins hit Ihmir Smith-Marsette for a 7 yard touchdown to put Minnesota up two scores. The Vikings went on to punt on each of their next 5 drives, leaving a small glimmer of hope for Chicago. However, the Bears couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity. Down 17-3 with time running out, Fields found Jesper Horsted for a 19 yard touchdown which made the final score respectable.

Minnesota still in the hunt

The Vikings (7-7) improve to .500 and keep their playoff hopes alive. Chicago (4-10) has been officially eliminated from post season play.
