White Sox beat the Pirates 4-3 to end their 5-game losing streak (Pittsburg, Pennsylvania) – The Chicago White Sox pitcher, Dylan Cease, took the mound this afternoon to start for the White Sox. In the top of the 2nd inning White Sox batter, Leury Garcia, homered off a fastball to center field which put the first run on the scoreboard. Pirates pitcher, Chase De Jong, tossed a curveball that White Sox batter, Tim Anderson, hit an RBI double that stretched the lead 2-0 White Sox in the 2nd. Pirates batter, Adam Frasier, grounded out to send their base runner home and the Pirates notched their first run of the day. Pirates batter, Ke’Bryan Hayes, didn’t let the White Sox bask in their lead for very long because he retaliated with an RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd that tied the game 2-2. The 4th inning consisted of lineouts, flyouts, and strikeouts with both teams playing good defense.

White Sox Stretch Their Lead

White Sox batter, Yasmani Grandal, placed the ball right in the middle of left field for a two-run double which brought the score to 4-2 White Sox. White Sox pitcher, Ryan Burr, relieved Cease after 99 pitches in the bottom of the 6th with one runner on base. Burr escaped the 6th inning suffering no damage. White Sox pitcher, Codi Heuer, replaced Burr to start the bottom of the 7th. Pirates batter, Ke’Bryan Hayes then came back to hit his second RBI single, to center field. After a Pirates single RBI, double, and another single, the White Sox pulled Heurer and replaced him with White Sox pitcher, Aaron Bummer, who was able close out the 7th inning. The score was 4-3 White Sox. In the bottom of 8th inning, Bummer disposed of three straight Pirate batters for a fast inning. Taking no chances, the White Sox changed pitchers 3 times in the last three innings to close out the game. Liam Hendricks closed out the very close game with a strikeout, lineout, and groundout.
