White Sox suffer loss on the road against Pirates (Pittsburg, Pennsylvania) – The first pitch was tossed out by Pirate’s pitcher, Tyler Anderson, to start the inning with a quick strikeout, groundout, and flyout. White Sox pitcher, Lucas Giolito, took the mound to throw also went three up and three down. In the bottom of the 2nd Giolito picked off Pirates man on base, Phillip Evans, with a throw to first baseman, Jose Abreu, for the final out of the 2nd inning. In the bottom of the 3rd Pirates batter, Adam Frazier, homered to right field to put the first run on the scoreboard. Pirates led the White Sox 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd. The 4th and 5th innings both were filled with groundouts, flyouts, and pop outs as both teams played good defense. Giolito tossed a changeup that Pirates batter, Bryan Reynolds, made solid contact with to get an RBI single. The score was 2-0 Pirates at the bottom of the 6th. White Sox batter, Yasmani Grandal, smashed a sinker by Anderson, with 2 men on base for a go-ahead home run which lifted the score to 3-2 White Sox in the top of the 7th.

A Short-Lived Lead

White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet relieved Giolito after a grueling 111 pitches in the bottom of the 7th. Pirates batter, Kevin Newman, singled on a bunt to White Sox third baseman, Yoan Moncada, who had a throwing error that allowed a run to tie the game at 3-3. On deck was Pirates batter Erik Gonzalez, who hit a 2-run single on a ground ball to left field which brought the score to 5-3 Pirates. White Sox pitcher Aaron Bummer replaced Crochet on the mound in an attempt to get out of the 7th inning. Reynolds singled on a ground ball to center field that brought Gonzalez home for a score of 6-3 pirates in the bottom of the 7th. In the bottom of the 8th inning White Sox pitcher, Ryan Burr, replaced Bummer and got a quick 3 and out. Unfortunately, in the 9th inning, the Pirates returned the favor and closed out the game with an easy 3 and out. The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago White Sox 6-3.
