White Sox win first game against Rays in the 11th inning (Tampa Bay, Florida) – The White Sox traveled to Tampa Bay to face the Rays, and the first play was a fielding error by the Rays defense off of a ball hit by White Sox batter Tim Anderson, who landed on second base. Next batter up was Luis Robert, who doubled to right field to give Anderson enough time to make it home, giving Robert the RBI. In the bottom of the 1st inning, the White Sox brought out Lucas Giolito to throw out the first pitch for the White Sox. By the end of the 1st, the White Sox had an early lead with the score at 1-0. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Rays batter Ji-Man Choi homered to left center field for a solo home run for the Rays. By the end of the 2nd inning, the Rays tied the White Sox 1-1. The 3rd and 4th innings consisted of many groundouts, and strikeouts. In the top of the 5th, Jose Abreu reached on a fielder’s choice to get an RBI. Soon after, White Sox batter Yoan Moncada hit a 2-run home run to center field. The Rays trailed the White Sox 4-1 going into the bottom of the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th, Rays batter Kevin Kiermaier was out on a sacrifice fly, but got one run in before Giolito put the game into the 6th inning.

A Back-and-Forth Game

In the top of the 6th, the Rays switched up their pitching, and then White Sox batters Cesar Hernandez, Seby Zavala, and Tim Anderson were all struck out. In the bottom of the 8th, White Sox pitcher Craig Kimbrel relieved Giolito after 90 pitches. White Sox batter Aaron Bummer took the mound soon after in the same inning. Bummer threw a 94 mph sinker to Rays batter Wander Franco, who grounded it for an RBI single. Rays batter Austin Meadows then singled on a line drive to center field for a 2-run single. By the end of the 8th inning, the Rays took the lead with the score at 5-4. In the top of the 9th inning, White Sox batter Tim Anderson hit a ball to center field for a solo home run to tie the game. In the bottom of the 9th, White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet took the mound for Bummer to close out the 9th and bring the game into extra innings. White Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks replaced Crochet to throw out the bottom of the 10th inning. In the top of the 11th inning, White Sox batter Tim Anderson hit an RBI single. Soon after, White Sox batter Jose Abreu grounded out, but gave Tim Anderson time to make it home. The White Sox took the lead 7-5 going into the bottom of the 11th. White Sox pitcher Ryan Tepera replaced Hendriks to close out the 11th with a flyout and 2 strikeouts. The White Sox beat the Rays 7-5.
