White Sox crush the Tigers on defense and offense (Detroit, Michigan) – After a week of home games, the Chicago White Sox were on the road to Detroit, to face the Tigers.  In the top of the 1st inning White Sox batter Yasmani Grandal hit an RBI single that put the first run on the scoreboard.  Up next to bat was White Sox batter Brain Goodwin, who sliced the ball up the ally of left field all the way to the wall for an RBI triple.  The White Sox took an early lead with the score at 2-0 White Sox.  In the bottom of the 1st White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn took the mound to throw the first pitch for the Sox.  The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings all consisted of many strikeouts, flyouts, and groundouts for both teams.  Both the White Sox and Tigers were playing excellent defense.

Exhausted Pitchers

In the top of the 5th inning, Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal was taken out of the game due to a left calf injury, and was replaced by Zack Collins behind the plate.  In the bottom of that inning, Tigers batter Jonathan Schoop hit a sacrifice fly to put the Tigers first run on the scoreboard.  In the top of the 7th, White Sox batter Danny Mendick hit a sacrifice fly out to right field that gave the Sox another run.  In the bottom of the 7th, White Sox pitcher Codi Heuer relieved Lynn at the mound after a grueling 117 pitches.  At the end of the 7th inning, the score was 3-1 White Sox.  In the bottom of the 8th, White Sox pitcher Jose Ruiz took the mound for Heuer.  In the top of the 9th, White Sox batter Andrew Vaughn hit a ball to center field for a solo home run.  Mendick took the plate to hit an RBI single soon after.  Gavin Sheets crushed a 95mph fastball over the fence to bring 2 men on base home.  At the top of the 9th the score was 8-1 White Sox.  In the bottom of the 9th, White Sox pitcher, Matt Foster, replaced Ruiz to close out the game.  Foster let Tiger’s batter, Nomar Mazara, get a good look at a ball to get a single RBI and the last run of the game.  The Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 8-2.
