LifeHouse Group to Host Sober Block Party in Dixmoor (Dixmoor, IL) — LifeHouse Group, Restoration Ministries, and The Phoenix have joined together to host a sober block party that is free and open to anyone who is eighteen years or older. Their goal is to create more sober spaces in the south suburbs of Chicago to allow people in recovery to gather without the presence of alcohol or drugs.

The opioid crisis has shined a much-needed spotlight on the challenges facing people with substance use disorders. It has stimulated conversations about addiction and recovery and the need for affordable, effective treatment. What is less talked about, but just as important, is the need for places and spaces where one can go after treatment to build a solid foundation in recovery.

“Unfortunately, our culture all too often links social events and the idea of ‘fun’ to the use of alcohol and drugs,” said Dan Walsh, LifeHouse Group’s chief executive officer. “Getting clean and sober is one challenge, staying clean and sober is quite a different challenge. Studies have shown that one of the most important indicators for a successful recovery is a person’s ability to make meaningful connections to other people and to build community. That’s why LifeHouse Group, Restoration Ministries, and The Phoenix are hosting a sober block party in early May. It’s part of our effort to end the isolation so many people in recovery experience.”
