White Sox are looking to sweep the city series (Chicago, Illinois) – The White Sox played their 2nd game of the city series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field today, and the White Sox came out swinging. In the top of the 1st inning, White Sox batter Yoan Moncada hit a 2-run double to center field to cement the first runs of the day. In the bottom of the 1st inning, White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon took the mound for the White Sox to throw out 3 consecutive strikeouts. By the end of the 1st inning, the Cubs trailed the White Sox 2-0.  The 3rd inning consisted of great defense on both teams, with many groundouts, strikeouts, and a flyout.  In the top of the 4th inning, the Cubs threw out 3 consecutive groundouts against the White Sox offense. In the bottom of the 6th inning, White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech relieved Rodon at the mound after throwing out 89 pitches.

Cubs Struggle to Hang On

In the top of the 7th inning, White Sox batter Leury Garcia grounded into a force-out but managed to slip onto 1st base.  He then stole second base with a man also on 3rd base.  White Sox batter Gavin Sheets grounded the last out and the Cubs escaped the 7th with no damage.  In the bottom of the 7th inning, White Sox pitcher Aaron Bummer replaced Kopech at the mound.  In the top of the 8th inning, White Sox batter Cesar Hernandez crushed a ball to left center field for a solo home run.  The next at bat was Jose Abreu, who also rocketed a ball to left field for another solo home run.  The White Sox extended the lead over the Cubs to 4-0.  In the bottom of that inning, White Sox pitcher Craig Kimbrel took the mound for Bummer to close out the 8th inning.  In the bottom of the 9th and final inning, the White Sox swapped pitchers again to White Sox pitcher Ryan Tepera, who closed out the game with flyout, pop out, and strikeout. The White Sox win again against the Cubs 4-0.
