South Suburban College Hosts Southworks Engineering and Robotics Competition for High School Students (South Holland, IL) — The Southworks Engineering and Robotics competition will take place on Saturday, April 22 from 9 am to 12 pm at the Field House at South Suburban College. More than 250 high school students from 17 schools will compete in five different competitions.

The Southworks competition is part of a year-long program aimed at introducing young people to technical careers in manufacturing and logistics, with a focus on connecting them with regional employers. The program includes events throughout the year, such as Manufacturing Day and Meet and Greet. The Southworks Engineering and Robotics competition is a highlight of the program and provides an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and compete with their peers.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to present the awards at the Southworks Engineering and Robotics competition at South Suburban College,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “This event gives high school students a chance to explore the exciting and rewarding world of engineering and robotics. We’re proud to support this program and help young people connect with potential employers in the manufacturing and logistics industries.”

Sarah Glavin of Amazon, which provided funding for the program, will also attend the event and speak to the students. The Southworks program is a collaboration between Governors State University, 3Seeds, OAI, CSEDC, Amazon, and regional employers, and aims to prepare students for careers in the manufacturing and logistics fields.
