Prairie State College Hosts New Art Exhibit: WOW – Realism (Chicago Heights, IL) — Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting WOW – Realism at the Christopher Art Gallery on 202 South Halsted St in Chicago Heights on the main campus through December 14. The college will also host an Artist’s Reception, free and open to the public, on Wednesday, November 29, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

The show will feature works of art by Andrew Arkell, Steve Jones, Tim Lowly, and Maria Tomasula in various media that use intense realism to create meaning. Symbolism, oblique perspective, narrative, strong color, and shifting of scale take these works beyond merely replicating what is “seen.”

“These works are not only highly masterful in technique, but engage the viewer through their subject matter,” Gallery Director Beth Shadur said. “Each artist expresses creativity through symbolism, narrative, storytelling, and ideas. We look in wonder at their beautiful colors, use of media, and composition that makes each work unique and meaningful.”

The gallery is free and open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. except for days the college is closed.
