Governor Pritzker and Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton’s Twitter Statements on a National Abortion Ban (Springfield, IL) – A National Abortion ban would cost lives, trample reproductive rights, and devalue women and girls. As leaders, it is our duty to provide opportunities, support, and stability to the people we serve and fight for what is best for this country. A national abortion ban should not honor these values. Instead, it threatens the safety and well-being of millions while reversing decades of progress in gender equality.
Believe that Illinois will not waver in the battle for reproductive justice, because we trust and believe in women.

Illinois is and always will be a state where we respect women’s rights to make their own decision about their bodies and their healthcare. The extremists in the GOP told us it should be up to the states to decide and we knew they couldn’t be trusted.
A nation wide ban on abortion is not only an egregious attempt to stip away long held rights, but it puts the lives of women at risk. The GOP’s blatant lies are disappointing, but no longer surprising. As Governor, I’ll never stop fighting to protect every Illinois’ right to choose, and I call on all our representatives to put people over party and vote against a nation-wide ban on abortion.
