Dolton 149 School Board Hails Student Math, Reading Growth (Dolton, IL) — The Dolton School District 149 Board of Education learned last week that student math and reading score growth met and exceeded the south suburban district’s planned goals for the end of the year target, moving hundreds of students to grade level.

At its monthly meeting on June 22, the board was informed that Dolton 149’s 2,200 K through 8 students had achieved the planned reading and math growth of 2.5% on the national Measures of Academic Progress Test (MAP) by the end of the school year.

“In reading, we had 12.3% growth, and 244 children were moved to grade level and in mathematics, we had 25.6% growth, and 500 children were moved to grade level.,” said Dolton 149 Superintendent Dr. Maureen White. “The Board of Education set a target for growth, and the teachers, principals, and parents helped our students meet the goals for reading and math growth.”

Dolton 149 Board Presidents praises results.

“Our results are awesome,” said Board President Lolita Crisler-Liggons. “I am very proud of the students, teachers, principals, all the staff, parents, and Superintendent White, at the helm, who helped our students achieve growth in their math and reading scores.”

Dr. White looks to the future.

“While we are extremely pleased with our students’ academic achievements this year, we will not rest on our laurels,” said Dr. White. “The district plans to continue to seek student academic growth in reading and math each and every year. Our goal is to push our students to their highest academic potential, to excel and exceed.  The work of educators is a marathon, not a sprint, and the Board and staff of District 149 are committed to it for the long haul.”
