Dixmoor Municipal Officers Electoral Board Decision to Remove Trustee Candidate Alda Leavy-Skinner from Ballot Upheld (Dixmoor, IL) — Cook County Circuit Court Judge Tracie Porter issued a ruling Friday which confirms the Dixmoor Municipal Officers Electoral Board’s decision to remove Trustee candidate Alda Leavy-Skinner from the ballot.

The Dixmoor Municipal Officers Electoral Board previously voted to remove Trustee candidates Alda Leavy-Skinner, Cynthia J. Mossuto and Raymond Lavigne from the April 4th ballot due to various issues with the petitions the candidates gathered. The candidates opted to appeal the decision and Judge Porter upheld the decision in Leavy-Skinner’s case. Hearings for Cynthia J. Mossuto and Raymond Lavigne are scheduled for later this month.

“We take our responsibilities seriously in these matters,” said Dixmoor Village President Fitzgerald Roberts. “The Board reviewed the petitions and found several problems with them and so far the courts agree with our decision. The Village of Dixmoor welcomes anyone to run for office but everyone must follow the rules when circulating petitions to get on the ballot. The Rule of Law was upheld in Judge Porter’s decision.”

James Vasselli, the Dimoor Village Attorney, said due to the need to print the ballots, Leavy-Skinner, Massuto  will technically appear on the ballot but they are not official candidates.

“In short, Leavy-Skinner, Massuto, and Levigne are not proverbially, ‘on the ballot,’ they are ineligible to receive votes at this time,” Vasselli said. “Votes for them will have no effect at this time. They will remain proverbially ‘off the ballot’ unless a judge enters an order overturning the decision of the electoral board, which we really don’t expect to happen. Basically, a vote for Leavy-Skinner, Massuto, or Levigne will have no effect on the outcome of the election—it is a wasted vote. Not following the election laws has its consequences.”

Currently both Cynthia J. Mossuto and Raymond Lavigne are not on the April 4th ballot.
