CTA Train Honors the 2021 WNBA Champion Chicago Sky (Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) yesterday unveiled a one-of-a-kind, specially-designed train to honor the Chicago Sky, our hometown 2021 WNBA Champions. The eye-catching exterior “wrap” of the Chicago Sky Train celebrates the drive and determination, hard work and teamwork, that led the Sky to its first pro basketball championship in team history.

“Playing inspired basketball throughout the playoffs, the Chicago Sky epitomized the same resilience, grit and determination our City and our CTA employees have demonstrated for the past 19 months, while lifting our spirits sky high in the process,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. “We are so very proud of this team and we are honored to be the primary transit option for fans getting to and from Wintrust Arena throughout the season.”

The Wrap

This year’s train wrap features the Chicago Sky logo and the team’s signature blue-and-yellow color scheme. The rail car design evokes the speed, power and grace of such Sky stars as Candace Parker, Kahleah Copper (WNBA Finals MVP), Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot.

This colorful, distinctive train made its debut Monday, Nov. 1, on the Green Line, where it will travel past Wintrust Arena, the team’s home court and place where it clinched this year’s championship.

This is not the first time CTA has created special designs for its rail cars. The transit agency previously honored the World Series Champion Chicago White Sox in 2005 and the 2016

Chicago Cubs. In 2017, the CTA became the first major U.S. transit agency to unveil a special Pride Train. The much-beloved train featured an undulating rainbow ribbon stretched across four rail cars. The colorful train provides service the last few weeks in June, to coincide with a variety of city-wide Pride events, including the Pride Parade.

Basketball fans and other passengers can catch a ride on the 2021 Chicago Sky Train, through the end of the year.
