Democratic Powerhouses at Democrats of Bloom Township Inaugural Meeting (Chicago Heights, IL) — Newly elected Bloom Township Democratic Committeeperson Monica Gordon held the Democrats of Bloom Township’s inaugural meeting on Saturday with brunch and an impressive list of Democratic political A-listers. Event speakers were Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, US Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez, State Senator Napoleon Harris, State Senator Patrick Joyce, State Rep. Anthony DeLuca, and State Rep. Marcus Evans. Other notable attendees included State Rep. Debbie Meyers-Martin, Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi, MWRD President Kari Steele, and Hon. Justice Jesse Reyes.

The main focus of the meeting, which was held at The Iron Pearl East in Chicago Heights, was the upcoming November and April elections. The group spoke of their plans to get high-quality, Democratic candidates elected, and discussed varying issues such as reproductive rights and the worker’s rights amendment.

“The Southland is a strong force in the state’s Democratic party. We are committed to getting good Democrats elected. The Democrats of Bloom Township are worker bees who work tirelessly to help the party move forward,” said Bloom Township Committeeperson Monica Gordon. “We will not support candidates who don’t support the Democrats of Bloom Township’s candidates. The new Democrats of Bloom Township organization exemplifies support, commitment, and loyalty.

The Democrats of Bloom Township executive board consists of Lansing Trustee Micaela Smith, Chicago Heights Alderwoman Kelli Merrick, Chicago Heights Park District Commissioner Jessica Mangiaracina, Park Forest Mayor Jon Vanderbilt, Steger Mayor Ken Peterson, and Lynwood community advocate Melissa Taylor

Bloom Township Democratic Committeeperson Monica Gordon is also a current Prairie State College trustee, where she serves as board secretary, and is the current Democratic nominee for 5th District Cook County Board of Commissioners in the upcoming November election.
