Sustainable BioWorks LLC (SBW) hosted a community meeting to announce its plan to build a 17+ acre eco-friendly anaerobic digester (AD) facility at the former Waste to Energy Facility in Robbins, Illinois
The site redevelopment anaerobic digester will recycle industrial wastewater to recover green methane, carbon dioxide (greenhouse gases) and nutrients for fertilizer, a salable commodity. Anaerobic Digestion is a naturally occurring process where microorganisms consume organic waste. These organisms will eat the organic waste (expired or unusable packaged food products). The conversion process reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves water quality in the area while creating new jobs and economic opportunity for the community.
The Sustainable BioWorks site will be strictly monitored and regulated by the Illinois EPA through their permitting process to ensure the protection of the neighboring southland communities and preserve the environmental quality of the natural resources. The project is a capital investment of greater than $100 million with a strong commitment to women and minority businesses participation and will generate approximately 250 construction jobs, and 135 full time well-paying engineering, technical, operation, management and administrative jobs with local preference given to Robbins’ residents and the surrounding southland communities.
“The next wave of sustainable, clean and renewable energy is here!” said Robert Fletcher, senior manager. “As climate change, full landfills and populations rise, the demand globally for the biogas industry is valued as a $57.53 Billion industry and growing. We are looking to provide the safest, best eco-friendly solution to the demand for innovative alternative fuel and products that are healthy for the environment and the communities we serve. Sustainable BioWorks, LLC is excited to partner with the Village of Robbins, IL to grow a more sustainable and resilient community for decades to come!”

This next generation depends on us to implement sustainable solutions for our planet, we have a corporate responsibility to act now,” said environmental scientist, Victoria Wilson. The Sustainable BioWorks facility will make Robbins, Illinois the largest green industrial municipality in the country. This project will be a catalyst for economic growth and infrastructure improvement boosting economic output in Robbins.
