Trae Young scores 42, leads Atlanta to comeback win against the Bulls (Atlanta, GA) – The Bulls have a chance to earn their longest winning streak of the season at 4 games, tonight against the Atlanta Hawks. Since the trade deadline, the Bulls rank 1st in assists at 29 per game and 3rd in assist percentage at 67.5%.

Atlanta has also been hot as of late, winning 4 of their last 5 games. However, they will be without their usual starting power forward tonight in John Collins. The Hawks will still have plenty of firepower though as they have 9 players averaging double-figure scoring, led by Trae Young at 25 points per game.

LaVine scores 39 in the 1st half

LaVine got off to a great start for Chicago, scoring 12 of the team’s first 18 points. His efforts led to Chicago leading 18-12 with 7 minutes left in the 1st. Tomas Satoransky set the tone with ball movement, with 6 of the Bull’s 13 assists in the quarter. The Bulls led 33-25 going into the 2nd.

The Hawks made their first 4 shots in the 2nd quarter, to reduce the Bulls lead to 37-35. LaVine responded with 25 straight points for the Bulls, to put Chicago up 62-51 with 3 minutes left in the half. The Bulls led 66-53 going into the 2nd half.

LaVine had 39 points in the first half, the most by any player in the NBA this season. He made 7/9 three-pointers, compared to Atlanta going 3/15 from the three point line as a team. Young led the Hawks in the 1st half with 18 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

Trae Young scores 17, Atlanta dominates in the 3rd

Young wasted no time closing the gap for Atlanta, as he scored 10 points to begin the 3rd. Young’s scoring helped reduce the Bulls advantage to 75-73, with 6 minutes left in the quarter. Behind a tip-in from Onyeka Okongwu, the Hawks took their first lead of the game at 84-82. Atlanta outscored Chicago 33-18 in the quarter, to go up 86-84 going into the 4th.

Hawks snap the Bulls 3-game win streak

Coby White came into the 4th with 0 points, but he stepped up to start the quarter. White scored 11 points, helping the Bulls retake the lead at 99-96 with 8 minutes left. Atlanta responded with a 13-4 run, to go up 109-103 with 4 minutes remaining. Danilo Gallinari hit the dagger three-pointer for the Hawks, extending their lead to 116-106 with only 1 minute left. Atlanta won the game, 120-108.

Gallinari was huge in the 4th for the Hawks, scoring 15 of his 20 points. Clint Capela also scored 8 of his 22 points in the final period. Young led the Hawks throughout the game with 42 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.

LaVine scored a career-high 50 points and Nikola Vučević added 25 points, but Chicago simply didn’t receive enough help from the rest of the team. The Bulls also let Atlanta score too many points in the paint, at 66.
