Tigers walk away with close first game against White Sox (Detroit, Michigan) – For the first game in Detroit against the Tigers the White Sox wanted to make a good impression by swinging to the fences. The White Sox offense had no luck in the top of the 1st. In the bottom of the 1st inning, White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon took the mound to throw out the front of the game. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, 3 White Sox batters were struck out swinging. In the top of the 3rd inning, White Sox batter Yoan Moncada grounded a force out, but not before he was able to sneak in the first run of the day with an RBI. Next batter up was Yasmani Grandal, who was out on a sacrifice fly but managed to slip by an RBI.  Next batter up was Eloy Jimenez, who hit an RBI double that brought the score to 3-0 White Sox going into the bottom of the 3rd.  In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Tigers batter Victor Reyes hit an RBI grounder to center field for the first run for the Tigers. Next batter up was Tigers batter Jonathan Schoop who reached on a fielder’s choice and received an RBI to close the lead on the White Sox. Soon after, Tigers batter Miguel Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game. By the end of the 3rd innin,g the Tigers quickly tied the game at 3-3.

Tigers Fight to Keep Game Competitive

In the bottom of the 4th inning White Sox pitcher Jose Ruis replaced Rodon to throw out a lineout, flyout, and pop out. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Ruis closed the inning with no damage to the scoreboard. In the bottom of the 6th, White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet took the mound to throw out 2 groundouts and a strikeout. He was soon replaced in the 7th by White Sox pitcher Ryan Burr. In the bottom of the 8th inning, Tigers batter Robbie Grossman was hit by a knuckle ball to advance to 1st base. Grossman then moved on to steal 2nd base and was brought home by Tigers batter Harold Castro, who hit an RBI single to right field.  By the end of the 8th the Tigers pulled ahead by 1 run.  In the top of the 9th inning White Sox batter Gavin Sheets, Ceasar Hernandez, and Brain Goodwin all grounded out to close the game. The Tigers beat the White Sox 4-3.
