Rep. Haas Celebrates IDOT Vehicle Procurement in District 79 (Kankakee, IL) — Following the announcement of $57.1 million awarded in new paratransit vehicles on behalf of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) released the following statement:

“I am thrilled that the Illinois Department of Transportation has awarded a total of eleven new vehicles to transit providers in the 79th District through their Consolidated Vehicle Procurement Program,” said Rep. Haas. “This program provides paratransit vehicles that meet standards set by the federal government, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, to local transit organizations.”

This program allows the Illinois Department of Transportation to buy the specialized vehicles in large volumes, which results in lower prices than if they were bought individually.

Vehicles awarded to organizations in District 79 include one vehicle to Kankakee County, nine vehicles to River Valley Metro Mass Transit in Bourbonnais, and one vehicle to The Thresholds in Kankakee.

Rep. Haas concluded, “Accessible transit options for individuals in Illinois are essential. Especially in suburban and rural areas of our state, transit options that meet the needs of residents are incredibly limited. I applaud the Illinois Department of Transportation for their commitment to providing these resources to our local communities.”
