Orland Park Resolution Calls for Kim Foxx to Step Down, Vote of No Confidence — The Village of Orland Park held its fifth board meeting Monday, March 7th. Among the topics discussed was a Resolution affirming a vote of no confidence, calling for Kim Foxx to resign as Cook County State’s Attorney and calling upon other elected bodies to approve similar resolutions.

Orland Park Resolution Honors Victims Rights

Agenda item 17, the Mayor’s Report, included a Resolution Honoring the Rights of Victims, Affirming A Vote of No Confidence in Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, Calling On County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx to Resign in Order to Help Restore the Public’s Confidence in the Criminal Justice System, and Calling Upon Other Elected Bodies to Approve Similar Resolutions. The full text of the resolution can be found here.

Justification of Resolution Criticizing Kim Foxx

Trustee William Healey weighed in on the discussion of the resolution. Healey believes Kim Foxx is not the sole issue. He stated, “Tim Evans, Preckwinkle, Kwame Raoul, Governor Pritzker, they should all resign. They’re all part of this. They’ve all contributed to … the decline in safety.”

Trustee Brian Riordan stated that “every single Friday … we get proof of why this is necessary. They (police) see the same offenders every week. They’re out 10 days later, a week later. … It’s impossible this is not gonna end badly for us, for our officers … Something’s gotta be done.”

Trustee Sean Kampus said “our police force has been exceptional, but I wish that they didn’t have to be, right? And what I mean by that is they are up against exceptional odds every week.” As an example, he cited 21 illegal guns seized over 18 days: “That’s guns in the hands of convicted felons, repeat offenders … This is our police force finding people with illegal weapons before the have the opportunity to commit another serious crime.” He went on to say “we should have a strong partnership with our State’s Attorney office. Instead … The State’s Attorney’s office seems to be acting more as a public defender’s office.”

Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau’s Comments on Kim Foxx Crime Increase

Mayor Keith Pekau said that Kim Foxx wants us to forget what she has done. He responded “We will not forget the Jussie Smollett fiasco … that she routinely blames police before getting the facts.” Regarding shootings, Pekau stated “How many people, like our own Orland Park resident, have been murdered by stray bullets from gang wars? How many of those gang members have not been charged under the excuse of mutual combatants, claiming exchanging gunfire with another gang makes it self defense. Are you kidding me?”

Pekau also spoke on the increase of individuals on electronic monitoring being arrested for new crimes from 2016-2021: “Those charged with aggravated gun possession rose from 164 to 879, a 436% increase. In 2016, just 62 felons in possession of a gun were allowed out on ankle monitoring. That rose to over 534 in 2021, a 1,761% increase. … It’s a miracle the murders aren’t even higher.”

The resolution passed unanimously.
