On November 17, 2023, at 9:25 PM, Officers responded to Salem Village Nursing and Rehabilitation (1314 Rowell Avenue) for a report of a battery that had occurred on the sixth floor of the building. Upon arrival, Officers located an unresponsive 61-year-old male in a laundry room. Facility staff were providing medical assistance to the victim until arrival of Joliet Fire Department paramedics.
A preliminary investigation of this incident determined that Paschall attacked the victim while in the laundry room after becoming angry about the victim’s use of the washing machine. Facility staff rendered medical assistance to the victim and called 911. It was determined that Paschall and the victim are both residents of the facility.
Despite the attempts at life saving measures, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s Office. Paschall was detained and transported to the Joliet Police Department. Following their review of this case, the Will County State’s Attorney Office approved charges of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery to a Person 60 Years of Age or Older.
Identification of the victim and the manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
