International Home Furnishings Industry and City of Hope Honor Steve and Marty Darvin with Spirit of Life Award (Orland Park, IL) — The International Home Furnishings Industry group and its philanthropic partner City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, have named six industry veterans who will be honored in this year’s signature fundraising events, The Spirit of Life Award Dinner and the West Coast Golf & Tennis Tournament. Among the six industry leaders honored are local third-generation owners of Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Steve and Marty Darvin.

City of Hope is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and a leader in bone marrow transplantation and immunotherapy. Held April 23 during the High Point Market, The Spirit of Life Dinner, which features the prestigious Spirit of Life Award presentation, will recognize Steve and Marty.

In support and celebration of this honor, Darvin President Will Harris decided to give guests who donate $100 to City of Hope a $200 credit on qualifying purchases between January 17 and February 27. Donations of all sizes are welcome, and funds raised from this event will help continue to further and advance many of City of Hope’s ongoing cancer and diabetes programs. To donate cash, credit card or check, visit Darvin at 15400 La Grange Road in Orland Park and see a salesperson for assistance.

“We are honored to be receiving this award from City of Hope,” says Steve Darvin. “We are in constant admiration of the organization’s commitment to delivering the latest and most innovative cures of tomorrow to the people who need them today, and continuing to support them aligns with our mission of service.”

Steven J. Darvin, CEO of Darvin Furniture & Mattress, has led the company to success as a co-owner for more than five decades. Under Darvin’s leadership, the company has worked to make its customers’ and employees’ experience a top priority, and in 2020 it created an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) to allow its workforce to further benefit from the company’s future growth.

Marty A. Darvin, co-owner and chairman of the board of Darvin Furniture & Mattress, shares responsibility for the oversight of the company. His primary areas of focus are on operations, the distribution center and case goods buying.

“Steve and Marty have inspired Darvin to continue growing throughout the years, but the one thing that has remained consistent is a commitment to giveback and service in our communities and to organizations like City of Hope that have such a positive impact on others,” says Will Harris.

Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Chicagoland’s largest furniture and mattress store, celebrated its 102nd anniversary in 2022, an achievement most businesses can only dream of attaining. For Steve and Marty Darvin, having their name associated with such a familiar Chicagoland business comes with added responsibilities that include giving back to help others in need.

Darvin Furniture is an A+ Accredited Business with the Better Business Bureau, a recipient of the 2021 Mattress Retail Giant and national 2018 Leadership Award from Furniture Today Magazine, and the Illinois Retailer of the Year Award (See Video) from the Illinois Retail Merchants Association.
