Hazel Crest Receives Award for Solar Energy (Hazle Crest, IL) The Village of Hazel Crest received the designation of SolSmart Bronze. The designation recognizes Hazel Crest’s efforts for taking bold steps to make it faster, easier, and more affordable to go solar.

The recognition came from SolSmart during a recent virtual event. According to their website, SolSmart is led by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). SolSmart’s mission unites their team of organizations to assist local governments across the U.S. to cut red tape and reduce the barriers to solar within their communities.

Other communities who received recognition recently were Carol Stream, Mount Prospect, Bensenville, Broadview, Geneva, Gurnee, Northlake, Oak Forest and Westmont. All municipalities, counties, and regional organizations are eligible to join the SolSmart program and can learn more by visiting solsmart.org.

Mayor Alsberry mentioned that Hill Crest Baptist church operates completely on solar energy and provides some energy to the surrounding homes.

Later in the agenda, a resolution honoring Debra A. Moore, the sister of Village Trustee Kevin Moore was read. Debra Moore died on February 22, 2022.

Department Reports

The Inspectional Services Department will be working working on two projects. The department will be on the planning, review, contracting and registration of a $1 million cannabis infusion facility that will be in the village. Inspectional Services will also help Advocate Aurora Health South Suburban Hospital’s CT scanner replacement project that is over a $1/2 million.

The Fire Department held testing for 3 candidates on March 12 to fill a vacancy in the department.

During the Community and Business Relations report, several items were highlighted. First, the village has been updating its email list to get messages out to the community more effectively. Secondly, the village has updated its Facebook page. Lastly, there is new calendar of events which lists all upcoming events for the community. The list is available on Hazel Crest’s website.

Other items on the agenda included:

  • A motion to approve board meeting minutes of March 8, 2022
  • An approval for accounts payable No. 22-22 dated March 22, 2022 in the amount of $223,810.73.
  • Motion to approve Resolution 04-2022, a Resolution approving a Settlement Agreement with Azavar Audit Solutions, Inc.
  • Motion to approve the Managed Services Agreement with Revere Consulting Co., Inc. for Computer Technical Services.
  • Motion to approve Ordinance 056-2021, an Ordinance Authorizing Renewal of Aggregation Program for Electric Load.
