Fight Unfair Property Tax Increases with the Cook County Board of Review (Cook County, IL) — Suburban Cook’s BOR Commissioner George Cardenas urges Lyons Township residents to fight property tax increases at the Board of Review. Cardenas said, “The Cook County Board of Review (BOR) is aware of the recent findings by the ABC7 I-Team (https://abc7chicago.com/cook-county-property-tax-assessment-lyons-township-assessor/14556191/) regarding the extraordinary increases in property tax assessments in Lyons Township. As your Commissioner at the Cook County Board of Review, I am deeply concerned about the impact these increases may have on our residents and their ability to afford their homes.”

The I-Team found that some homeowners saw increases of 643 percent. An analysis of Lyons Township by BOR found that more than 1000 properties in Lyons Township saw their assessed land values double. More than 100 residential properties saw their land values increase at least 400 percent and nine homeowners saw their land values increase 900 percent. Overall in Lyons Township, Assessed Values rose 39 percent and residential values rose 32 percent.

Cardenas said, “The Board of Review is committed to ensuring fair and accurate property tax valuations. We understand the anxiety and frustration that come with seeing your property taxes more than double, as has been the case for some residents. Our office is here to assist and support you in challenging these increases.

If you believe your property has been over-assessed, I encourage you to file an appeal with the Cook County Board of Review later this year. Our team is dedicated to reviewing the work of the Cook County Assessor and ensuring that property valuations reflect the true market value of your home.

We stand with the residents of Lyons Township and are determined to rectify any errors in assessment. It is our responsibility to protect the investments you have made in your homes and to prevent any undue financial burden due to inaccurate property tax assessments.

For assistance with filing an appeal or for more information on the appeals process, please visit our website www.cookcountyboardofreview.com

Together, we will work to safeguard the future of our community and ensure that Lyons Township remains a place where families can thrive.”
