Extreme Temperature Alert: Check on Elderly and Disabled During Dangerous Weather (Orland Park, IL) — The Village of Orland Park is bracing for the predicted near 100 degree temperatures in the coming days coupled with high heat indices. Temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 90s Tuesday through Friday evening. With the heat index, it could feel like more than 100 degrees. Sunset won’t bring much relief, as the heat indices are expected to remain in the 90s in the evenings and possibly into the overnight hours.
The Orland Park Police Station, located at 15100 S. Ravinia Avenue, is the Village’s main cooling center.
“The extreme temperatures bring with them the increased risk for heat-related health issues,” said Orland Park Police Chief Eric Rossi. “We’re asking residents to check on elderly and disabled friends and neighbors to make sure they’re safe and comfortable,” he said. The Orland Park Police Station, located at 15100 S. Ravinia Avenue, is the Village’s main cooling center.
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are two of the biggest concerns with high temperatures. High temperatures and humidity can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. The risk is higher for the elderly or those with preexisting health conditions.
“Those who need a place to escape the heat should come to the police station and, if necessary, we can open other Village buildings for those who need them,” said Rossi. “If someone needs help, call and let us know.”
Health officials urge people to limit strenuous outdoor activities, check on elderly and disabled relatives, friends and neighbors and wear loose fitting clothing.

Waste Management will be collecting trash at 5 a.m. throughout the week to keep workers out of the intense heat during the afternoon hours.
