Dolton 149 Announces Voluntary COVID-19 Testing for Staff and Students (Calumet City, IL) – South suburban Dolton School District 149 today announced a voluntary, on-site, COVID-19 weekly testing initiative for district staff and students – with written parental authorization – that will begin the week after Thanksgiving.

At its monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 17, The Dolton 149 Board of Education gave the green light to the testing program.

“Dolton 149 wants to give parents the option and the convenience of having their children tested weekly, with their written authorization, at school,” said Dolton 149 Board President Rayya Ghani. “We know parents are both busy with work and concerned about the health of their children, so the district wants to offer a voluntary testing option to ease any concerns parents may have about their child’s health.”

Tests

The tests for 7th and 8th grade students, who have written authorization from their parents or guardians,  are administered by a cheek swab – and not the nasal swab – during the school day once per week. Parents will be provided an individual privacy code to retrieve the results the next day, according Dolton 149 Superintendent Dr. Shelly David-Jones.

“The cheek swag tests cause no discomfort whatsoever to middle school students,” said Dr. Davis-Jones. “Parents can receive the results on their cell phone the next day by using an individual privacy code which the district will provide.”
