Dixmoor Repairs All Water Main Breaks, Village Remains Under Boil Order (Dixmoor, IL) — Over the past week, the Village of Dixmoor has suffered a total of 7 water main breaks that wreaked havoc on the community. The first break, which occurred in the early-morning hours of January 22, led to a catastrophic chain of events that has finally been resolved today.

According to a village spokesperson, the first break, located at 14348 Paulina Street, was quickly repaired but led to another break. A total of 7 water main breaks have been repaired and for now, the repairs appear to be holding. These breaks led to the shut-down of Dixmoor schools and a boil-order due to the low water pressure

These latest water main issues are due to an aging infrastructure, said Dixmoor Village President Fitzgerald Robers. “These pipes are old and brittle…Our community desperately needs some major funding to permanently solve these problems.”

The southland region of Chicago has been plagued with water and sewage infrastructure woes over the past several years. Dixmoor, Robbins, Calumet City, Dolton, Posen,  Blue Island, and others have suffered their fair share of water main breaks, issues with lead pipes, sewer drainage issues, and more. Funding is trickling in for the needed repairs, but many area leaders say that more needs to be done.

There is still a boil-order in effect for the Village of Dixmoor. More updates will be made available.
