Cook County COVID-19 Recovery Small Business Assistance Program Highlights Stories
of Resilience, Resolve, Recovery
(Cook County, IL) – The COVID-19 pandemic threatened to take everything away from small business owners who put their heart, soul, and countless hours and resources into their businesses.

The Cook County COVID-19 Recovery Small Business Assistance Program proudly released a video, themed “Together We Thrive”, this month to uplift the voices and visibility of small business owners in Cook County. The program encourages all small business owners to draw from the video, share it, and share their own stories of resilience, resolve and recovery.

Luz Cavazos, owner of Juicy Luzy Sangria; Luis Corona, owner of Alejandra’s Mexican Restaurant; Allen Kern, owner of Senses to Soul School of Music; and Cassandra Lloyd, owner of Lloyd’s Lollipop Land & Daycare, Inc., were worried the pandemic would take away their dreams and livelihood. In the video, they tell their stories and express the relief they experienced once they received support from the program.

The video also features Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who provides an overview of Cook County’s Small Business Assistance Program; and Emilia DiMenco, president and CEO of the Women’s Business Development Center, and Jaime di Paulo, president and CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, who provide input on ways their organizations supported small business owners throughout the pandemic.

As part of the “Together We Thrive” theme, small business owners may also download window decals and social media post graphics to thank customers for supporting a community business.
