Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar Partners with Cook County Sheriff’s Office and The Town of Cicero to Provide Free Car Light Repairs (Cook County, IL) — On Thursday August 10th, the Cook County Sheriff’s mechanics facilitated a car light repair event for southwest suburban Cook County residents.  The event went from 9:00am to 12:00pm and was located at Morton College in Cicero, IL.  These free car light repair events, now in its fifth year, provide an opportunity to support communities by bringing increased access to vehicular safety.

“Our resident’s safety must be first and foremost in everything we do,” said Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar.  “Cost should never be a barrier to safety, and I am proud that residents throughout the 16th District were able to get their vehicles fixed, free of charge.  I would like to thank Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart and Cicero President Larry Dominick for a great event that will bring immediate help to our residents.”

Over 30 residents attended the event. While the majority were from Cicero, attendees came from throughout 16th district municipalities to access this free service. The Cook County Sheriff’s office also provided a free shredding event for residents and attendees to dispose of sensitive mail and other materials.

“Through studying the data, we found that many people in underserved communities were being stopped for equipment violations, resulting in unnecessary fines.” Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said. “This thoughtful program provides a free service to help those who cannot afford to get the necessary repairs completed and improves roadway safety.  It is a win for everyone, and the right approach.”

The aim of the program is to help residents avoid tickets, fees and traffic stops while improving road safety, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
