Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump Demands Release of Footage from Incident that Left Jaheim McMillan Dead (Gulfport, Mississippi) – Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump has released the following statement in regard to footage of the incident that left 15-year-old Jaheim McMillan dead. McMillan was involved in an Oct. 6 incident with Gulfport Police outside of a Family Dollar store that ended with officers firing shots that fatally wounded him. McMillan suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken off of life support.
On October 28, Family Dollar provided the legal team with video footage from the inside of the store, and while that level of cooperation is appreciated, the footage did not provide the legal team or family with a full picture of what occurred.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“The family of Jaheim McMillan deserves to know what happened to this 15-year-old boy in his last moments. To that end, the City of Gulfport must release all of the footage that they have from that night –– not only to provide answers but also as an act of good faith and respect for this family and community.
“This family deserves more than bread crumbs, they are owed the full truth about what happened to Jaheim. We believe that police body camera and dash-camera footage can provide that. We thank Family Dollar for their cooperation and transparency by providing us with the footage they have.”
