Ald. Lee Elected New Chair of Chicago City Council Women’s Caucus (Chicago, IL) — Alderwoman Nicole Lee (11) was elected chair of the Chicago City Council Women’s Caucus in a unanimous vote.

“It’s an honor to join this body in a new capacity as chair. I’m looking forward to guiding the group to its next chapter of service and support of women in our city,” said Ald. Lee. “It’s important to me that the Women’s Caucus work on developing policies that protect women in our city for generations to come. Chicago has the highest percentage of women-owned startups of any city in the world, a unique asset we need to promote and highlight while at the same strengthening our M/WBE programs.”

Members of the Chicago City Council Women’s Caucus include Ald. Pat Dowell (3), Ald. Michelle Harris (8), Ald. Julia Ramirez (12), Ald. Jeylu Gutierrez (14), Ald. Stephanie Coleman (16), Ald. Jeanette Taylor (20), Ald. Silvana Tabares (23), Ald. Monique Scott (24), Ald. Jessica Fuentes (26), Ald. Ruth Cruz, (30), Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez (33), Ald. Emma Mitts (37), Ald. Samantha Nugent (39), Ald. Angela Clay (46), Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth (48), Ald. Maria Hadden (49) and Ald. Debra Silverstein (50).

Alderwoman Nicole Lee is the first Asian American woman and Chinese American to serve on Chicago’s City Council. She joined the City Council in 2022 first as an appointee, and then won re-election in 2023. She is Vice Chair of the Committee on Budget and Government Operations, and is a member of the Committee on Aviation, the Committee on Committees and Rules, Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development, Committee on Education and Child Development, the Committee on Ethics and Government Oversight, the Committee on Finance, and the Committee on Police and Fire.

Prior to her appointment, Lee spent nearly 15 years with United Airlines, where she served as the Director for Social Impact Optimization and Global Community Engagement. Lee is a lifelong resident of Chinatown, raising her two sons in the house her family has lived in for 4 generations. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs and her Masters of Public Policy from the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy.
