Tragic Passing of Team Members’ Son Reaffirms Project HOOD’s Mission (Chicago, IL) — Project HOOD community is devastated to announce the tragic and untimely passing of the 19-year-old son of our esteemed Executive Assistant and brother of our cherished Youth Manager. Yesterday, he tragically fell victim to a senseless act of gun violence, a harsh reality we’ve pledged to combat.

“Today, we are not just an organization; we are a family mourning the loss of a young life taken far too soon,” said Pastor Corey Brooks, founder of Project HOOD. “Our hearts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with our colleague and her family during this unimaginably challenging time.”

Founded with the goal of eradicating the scourge of violence that has struck so close to home today, Project HOOD’s mission to end violence and uplift communities feels more personal and urgent than ever. Pastor Brooks pledged, “We will honor the memory of our colleague’s son by intensifying our efforts to prevent such tragedies in the future.”

“Our faith is shaken, but not broken,” added Pastor Brooks. “We will rely on each other and our community for strength in the coming days, buoyed by our shared conviction that we can, and must, do better.”

Respecting the privacy of our colleague and her family during this time of profound grief, Project HOOD has established a support fund to assist with expenses and provide resources for the family. Contributions can be made through our website, and any generous outpouring of support in this dark hour is greatly appreciated.

This loss should act as a stark reminder of the need to stand together against gun violence and champion the changes we wish to see. In memory of a young man who should be with us today, let us recommit ourselves to building safe, prosperous, and hopeful neighborhoods.

“May we find solace in our collective efforts, seek justice for our lost ones, and strive daily to create a world where no parent faces the pain our colleague endures now. In our hearts, our work, and our mission, his memory will forever remain,” concluded Pastor Brooks.
