Statement on the Russian Invasion of Ukraine from Pat Dowell, IL 1st CD Candidate (Chicago, IL) — “My heart goes out to the people of Ukraine and their families and friends around the world and especially here in Illinois. Vladimir Putin has invaded a free and democratic country. Putin has ruthlessly unleashed war on the people of Ukraine. Putin must be stopped. I stand with Ukrainians; I pray for peace while still supporting the strong and powerful actions of President Joe Biden and the United States, NATO, European Union, and countries globally who are committed to stopping Putin,” said Ald. Pat Dowell, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Illinois’ 1st Congressional District.
“Members of my team have deep contacts with Ukraine among journalists and civil society; I am receiving updates telling of the heroism and the steadfastness of Ukrainians. These stories inspire us all and give us hope. We all must stop this brutal tyrant and preserve freedom and democracy.”
