State Senator Robert Peters endorses Pat Dowell for Illinois Secretary of State, Together They Address Need to Protect Voter Rights (Chicago, IL) – State Senator Robert Peters today announced his support for Alderman Pat Dowell’s candidacy for Illinois Secretary of State.
“I have seen the commitment that Alderman Pat Dowell has for the people,” said State Senator Robert Peters. “She listens and understands their needs. She has a unique ability to bring the people, the community, and the government together and find a solution. She will bring that skill to the office of Secretary of State. This really differentiates her from other candidates in the race.”
While the Secretary State has limited authority in elections, Dowell supports using the office as a platform to help protect voting rights and access to voting. She plans to use the office of Secretary of State to convene working committees with all of the County Clerk’s offices to make sure they are in communication with the Secretary of State’s office.
“Illinois is key in the fight for voting rights, and the Secretary of State’s office is key to implementing an Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) process,” Senator Peters continued. “Alderman Pat Dowell is a trusted and steady hand who will continue making Illinois a leader in expanding voting rights and access available to all people.”
“Safe elections and voter access are the cornerstones of our democracy. I am honored to receive the endorsement of Senator Peters and to work with him on voting rights issues. He is a passionate leader,” said Alderman Pat Dowell. “I’m humbled that he recognizes my commitment to serve the people of Illinois.”
