Congresswoman Kelly expressed deep pride in the achievements of the school, reflecting on her personal connection to the area. “It makes me very, very proud to represent this area,” Kelly stated. “Many years ago, I lived in this area, the town next door. My kids graduated from the school system. I’m very proud to see the school doing things like this. It’s very meaningful.”

Accompanying Kelly were State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin, Matteson Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin, Cook County Commissioner Monica Gordon, and Richton Park Mayor Rick Reinbold. Their visit highlighted the school’s commitment to community service and innovation.

Superintendent Johnnie Thomas guided the tour, showcasing substantial renovations at the campus located at 5000 Sauk Trail. “A space that really takes care of the community,” as described by Thomas, the campus now features a state-of-the-art television broadcasting area, an athletic director’s office complete with medical facilities, a large weight room, a gymnasium with a 200-meter indoor track, and an armory for the naval cadet program.

Thomas emphasized the importance of community and governmental support in fostering educational innovation. “The more attention and focus we can put to making sure that we are funded in a supportive way, and that we have the support of the community, allows for us to do great ideas,” he remarked. “A lot of times, when people hear no’ constantly, it just stifles creativity.”

This tour underscores the ongoing efforts of Rich Township High School to enhance educational facilities and broaden the resources available to students and the community alike.
