Karin Norington-Reaves Congratulates and Urges Jonathan Jackson to Work for the People of the 1st District (Chicago, IL) — Today, Karin Norington-Reaves issued the following statement, following the election night results for the Chicago 1st Congressional District race.

“From the very beginning, this has been a tough and crowded race with 17 fierce competitors looking to represent the 1st District of Illinois. I was honored to take part in this journey, sharing my vision for the people and for the district the best way I knew how, by talking with voters, hearing about their issues, and thinking of solutions alongside the community. I’m grateful for those who have supported me and believed in my capacity to serve.

“I have dedicated my life to public service, advocating on behalf of people most in need and providing critical resources to Illinois’ working families. I know firsthand the struggles that we are living through – struggling to pay for everyday items due to rising costs and inflation, and living with a nagging fear for my children’s lives, praying they aren’t taken too soon due to gun violence.

“These are the issues I talked about, these are the issues I know we all care about, and these are the issues Jonathan Jackson now has the responsibility of addressing in his campaign. The people of the 1st District deserve a leader who will fight on their behalf. So I hope Jonathan will listen to the voters, work collaboratively with them, and represent this District with integrity and a sense of duty to honor its extraordinary history.

“Although I won’t be representing the people, I will still work on their behalf. The 1st District is my home and I will do everything in my power to strengthen and support our working families and adults for years to come.”

Karin Norington-Reaves launched her campaign on January 9, quickly receiving the endorsement of outgoing Congressman Bobby Rush. Since her announcement, she fueled her campaign with a desire to uplift the people of the 1st District. She mobilized groups, led discussions on the most pressing issues to voters, and received the endorsement of former Rep. Luis Guitterez, IBEW Local 134, IUOE Local 150, Teamsters Joint Council 25, The Collective PAC, NewDem Action Fund, Democrats Serve, and received the support of more than a dozen members of Congress.
