Harvey Detectives Cook County Sheriff’s Police Charged Juvenile with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Aggravated Unlawful use of a Weapon, and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Harvey, IL) – On Sunday, April 23, 2023, at approximately 11:50 pm, Harvey Patrol officers were dispatched to 288 West 147th Street (BP Gas Station) in reference to an aggravated vehicular hijacking. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who reported that he was approached by a Black juvenile male who pointed a black handgun at him and demanded his vehicle. The suspect then entered the vehicle and several more subjects ran towards and entered the vehicle before fleeing west bound on 147th Street. The stolen vehicle, a black 2016 Nissan Pathfinder, was immediately entered into LEADS as stolen.

Harvey Detectives began investigating the incident and reviewed video surveillance footage. They discovered five juvenile individuals were involved in the incident. On Monday, April 24, 2023, at approximately 5:22 pm, members of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police found the stolen vehicle at the Dolton Bowling Alley, 1401 East Sibley Blvd., Dolton, IL 60419, which was occupied by six juvenile suspects. Upon their approach, the suspects fled inside the bowling alley, but the officers were successful in apprehending all of them.

Subsequently, the arrestees were transported to the Sheriff’s Police Headquarters in Maywood for further investigation. Harvey Detectives worked with Sheriff’s Police to interview the subjects. The victim’s vehicle was processed by Sheriff’s Police and all recovered evidence was turned over to the Harvey Detective Division. While at the Sheriff’s Police Headquarters, Harvey Detectives placed a 13-year-old suspect into custody for aggravated vehicular hijacking. Harvey Detectives also recovered a black backpack that the juvenile possessed, which contained a loaded black semi-automatic handgun. 

Sheriff Police transported the suspect to the Harvey Police Department for processing. On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at approximately 2:30 am, Harvey Detectives charged the juvenile with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Aggravated Unlawful use of a Weapon, and with a valid Cook County warrant for Possession of a stolen Motor vehicle. The suspect was subsequently transported to the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center. 

The City of Harvey would like to commend the efforts of the Harvey Patrol officers and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department for their swift action in apprehending the suspects involved in this violent crime.
