Dowell and Norington-Reaves Express Disdain for Jackson’s Crypto Billionaire Donor
Dowell and Norington-Reaves Express Disdain for Jackson’s Crypto Billionaire Donor (Chicago, IL) — Chicago Alderwoman Pat Dowell and Karin Norington-Reaves, who are both vying for the seat being vacated by longstanding US Congressman Bobby Rush, are expressing their dismay at Jonathan Jackson’s acceptance of ad money from a crypto billionaire.
Samuel Bankman-Fried, founder and CEO of FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, promised Jackson a million dollars in ad money.
In a statement to the Southland Journal, Ald. Dowell said, “I trust the voters to do their research on who is the most qualified. I am proud of my record and experience, demonstrating my readiness on Day One. It is regrettable that Jonathan Jackson’s lack of experience and record made him turn to dark money to influence voters. The 1st District deserves leadership that will prioritize their concerns about guns, economic development, and voting rights, not the self-interest of the crypto currency industry. The question is will he be an independent representative? There is a reason they went to Jackson – he is inexperienced and malleable, and they know I will not be bought and bossed.
Likewise, Karin Norington-Reaves is calling on Senator Bernie Sanders to rescind his endorsement of Jonathan Jackson.
“The hypocrisy is stunning,” said Norington-Reaves. “First Jonathan Jackson funded his own campaign while refusing to file required disclosures so voters can understand any conflicts of interest, now Jackson is trying to have it both ways with Senator Sanders. You can’t tell voters you don’t think billionaires should elect politicians, and then accept a million dollars in ads from a crypto billionaire. The First District deserves ethical leadership. Character counts.”
Just last week, Sen. Bernie Sanders said, “These billionaires don’t want people like … Jonathan to be in Washington.” Sanders has called to ban Super PAC money, saying they are “attempting to buy Democratic primaries.”
If elected, Ald. Dowell or Norington-Reaves would become the first female elected to represent the 1st Congressional District.

Pat Dowell, Sen.Collins and Swain didn’t say anything when “ MYSTERY PAC BACKING KARIN NORINGTON-REAVES
Spots are being run by a new political action fund, Forward Progress, supporting Karin Norington-Reaves, the former CEO of the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership. The mysterious PAC has not reported its independent expenditure to the Federal Election Commission, even though TV time has already been bought. FEC rules require PACs making independent expenditures to report spending within 24 or 48 hours. Television ad-buy tracking information shared with the Sun-Times shows Forward Progress bought $161,211 worth of time their spots.
PACs making independent expenditures are prohibited from coordinating or communicating with the campaigns they are trying to help.” And truth be told they would have been more than Happy 😃 😊 😆 if the Crypto Billionaire had brought air spots for them instead of Jonathan Jackson because it’s not against the law. One can question what promises did make to get the donations they got. Jonathan will file his disclosure today. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!! Did Ald. Pat Dowell return all the money back to the people she raised for the SOS race or did she keep it and is using it for her Congressional Race, can she do that?
Both of them are hypocrites.
