Dixmoor Police Chief Lionel Smith: Shooting in Dixmoor leaves one deceased (Dixmoor, IL) – Dixmoor Police Chief Lionel Smith is issuing the following statement on a shooting incident occurring in Dixmoor on Saturday afternoon.
“At approximately 12:01 PM on Saturday, November 2nd, Dixmoor Police officers responded to several calls with reports of shots fired at the intersection of 147th and Seeley Street in Dixmoor.
Upon arrival, the responding officers observed a white Jaguar SUV that had collided with a residential home. Inside the vehicle, the officers observed a Black female with what appeared to be gun shot wounds. The victim was transported by Bud’s Ambulance to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. The victim was part of a funeral procession that had just left St. Mark’s Church in Harvey. The victim, Rhomesha Turner, 34, of Calumet Park, succumbed to her injuries.
This appears to be an isolated incident. The Dixmoor Police Department, with the assistance of the Illinois State Police, is conducting an ongoing investigation. No further information is available at this time.”
