Democratic Party Leadership Has Failed Us All says Latonya Ruffin for Cook County Sheriff (Chicago, IL) – “The Democratic Party leadership has failed us all with their ‘hands off’ approach to crime and ‘same old’ insider approach to candidates. I have participated with the formal party processes because I thought a critical number of elected officials and Democratic committeeman believed in real change, real law and order, not excuses and insider machine politics,” said LaTonya Ruffin, as she declared her candidacy for Cook County Sheriff.

“I should have known better. This is the same party apparatus that ignores the real problems in our communities. I have spent 15 years as a Deputy Cook County Sheriff, working inside the walls of the jail and I know what real changes need to be made and realities that must be faced up to. I will tell the painful truth to our Residents and make the reforms necessary to hold criminals accountable,” she said.

Experience

With 15 years of experience as a Cook County Deputy Sheriff, Ruffin will prioritize upgrading and optimizing the electronic monitoring program for those awaiting trial in the Cook County Court Criminal Justice system. Presently, too many participants discard their ankle bracelets and do not show up for trial, rendering the program ineffective.

LaTonya Ruffin’s law enforcement career began in February 2006, where she served as
as a Cook County Sheriff Deputy for 15 years, after receiving degrees in both law
enforcement and criminal justice from Moraine Valley Community College.

Ruffin has served and protected as a law enforcement officer in several Cook County municipalities the past two decades. Currently a police officer in Robbins, Il, she worked as a Patrol Officer at the Police Departments in Dixmoor and Markham, patrolling the streets of these cities and neighborhoods.

Enforcing the Law

Ruffin believes in enforcing the laws, mitigating public disturbances, investigating crimes, and apprehending those responsible for breaking the law. Ruffin also has five years of experience working with the Illinois State Police Crime Lab. Ruffin has worked as a Municipal Business Manager and has demonstrated a high level of executive acumen, directing a staff of over 20 municipal employees.

Ruffin has certificates in firearms, homeland security, and CPR, as well as medical assistant and holds a Computerized Accounting Certification. As a small business owner of a restaurant/sports bar, in Chicago Heights, IL., she understands the need for a safe and peaceful business atmosphere. Ruffin attributes her dedication, work ethic, morals to her strong, extended family, including a Two-Star Tuskegee Airman General.
