Daliah Goree Announced Her Candidacy for the Newly Mapped 21st Ward (Chicago, IL) — Chicago Police Officer Daliah Goree formally announced her bid to run for alderman in the newly mapped 21st Ward at APC Theater in the Morgan Park community on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Community supporters and family members surrounded the 24-year CPD veteran, including her husband, daughter, along with community activists, Tio Hardiman and Andrew Holmes.

Holmes says, “I’m here to support my friend, not because she’s an officer, but because she has a passion. She’s that person that cares about the community, will fight for economic development, and fight against crime—not just in this ward but across the city. So, I’m supporting her journey, and I ask everyone to not only move forward but to step forward to support her.”

A long-time resident of the 34th Ward, Daliah is familiar with the issues of concern by residents and understands the historical relevance of three communities combined to form the new 21st ward in 2023. Not attending the press conference, Ald. Carrie Austin (34th Ward) issued the following official statement endorsing Daliah’s bid for the aldermanic seat:

“My time has come to a close. It is time for me to turn the next page of my life. I will not seek reelection; however, I strongly support the candidacy of police officer Daliah Goree. As a public servant of the people for over two decades, Daliah worked in the 5th district as a dedicated police officer. She has been a faithful advocate, helping students during their high school proms—donating dresses, providing gifts for our senior luncheons, including Thanksgiving and Christmas contributions. Daliah will continue our community’s restoration and future development, and I know she is the type of alderman we need. These are reasons why I will stand firmly with her candidacy.” On Wednesday evening, supporters held a fundraiser for the candidate at the Black Fire Brigade where Ald. Austin, Ald. Derrick Curtis (18th Ward) and Andrew Holmes spoke to the crowd of attendees in their solidarity for Daliah Goree.
