Cook County Board of Review Commissioner George Cardenas Encourages South Chicago Township Homeowners to Appeal Their Property Assessments Before Their February 4th Deadline (Cook County, IL) – Homeowners in South Chicago Township have until Tuesday, February 4th to appeal their property’s assessed value to the Cook County Board of Review. Appealing with the Board of Review is a free service and can potentially lower taxpayers’ future property tax bills. Last year, 62% of homeowners who filed directly to the Board of Review had their property tax bill reduced according to an analysis from Cook County Board of Review District One.
“With single-family homes’ median estimated market values increasing by 15% as part of the 2024 reassessment, my office is here to support residents who are struggling with the resulting property tax bills,” said Commissioner George Cardenas. “You can appeal with my office for free and potentially save money on your future property tax bills.”
South Chicago Township was reassessed in 2024 and the median estimated market values for single-family homes and multi-family properties increased by 15% and 22%, respectively according to the Cook County Assessor’s Office. Condos’ median estimated market values in 2024 were unchanged when compared to the 2021 median.
