Chicago GOP Urges “No” Vote to Chicago’s Migrant Care Package (Chicago, IL) — Ahead of the Chicago City Council’s vote on a $51 million care package to assist the more than 10,000 migrants who have been bused into the city since last August, the Chicago Republican Party spoke out vehemently against the package.

“They still haven’t told us where this money is coming from. Where did they find this $51 million dollars that’s only going to last for 1 month?”  Chicago questioned GOP Chairman Steve Boulton. “It is irresponsible,” he continued, calling the spending package a stop-gap solution to an ongoing issue. He called out the city’s leaders for their reckless disregard for the citizens who need the most help. “These communities where they’re housing the migrants, South Shore, Woodlawn…they are impoverished. There isn’t enough money to keep their schools open, some of these communities see a household income of 16, 17 thousand dollars, but now we have more than $50 million in funding to provide a month or two of services for the migrants?”

Flanked by members of the most affected communities, Boulton called out Senators Durbin and Duckworth, saying that the federal government should step up. “Where are they? Are they on the south side? No. Are they on the west side? No. They are nowhere to be found.”

He continued by stating that he wants to take care of “our” people, and not just the people on the north side. Boulton maintained that the people on the south and west sides are “our” people too.

Paul McKinley of the South East Side GOP blamed the whole ordeal on the CTU. “The CTU is being run by people on the North Side. The South and West Sides don’t run the CTU. Why aren’t they housing these migrants on the North Side? Why aren’t the city aldermen having these migrants sleeping on their door steps and funding them with their personal money?”

The Chicago GOP stands firmly with the citizens of Chicago and urges the citizens to voice their concerns with the ongoing crisis with their local aldermen and leaders.
