New Procurement Growth Chair: December 28, 2020 (Springfield, IL) – The Black Chamber of Commerce of Illinois (BCCI) today welcomes LaShawn Jones as our new Procurement Growth Committee Chair. As BCCI works to build capacity, the BCCI Procurement Growth Committee will work to strengthen the capabilities of Black-owned businesses, and enhance their capacity for growth through education, certifications, and procurement opportunities.

Ms. Jones a Chicago native and serial entrepreneurs and founder of Chicago Eats Market Place. “With the inspiration of my parents, my father being a sophisticated and shroud business man having several businesses and my mom a catering business owner who was a chef for some of the most prestigious hotels in Chicago and the Las Vegas fueled the desire to own and run my own business. I look forward to sharing my experiences, business knowledge and expertise with the BCCI membership to ensure we as a Black Business Community are positioned to increase the increase our procurement participation and award percentages throughout the State of Illinois.” said LaShawn Jones, Chair of the BCCI Procurement Growth Committee.

The BCCI Procurement Growth Committee will work to:

  • Help facilitate procurement opportunities for Black Owned Businesses through outreach and technical assistance
  • Advocate for increased procurement opportunities with public and private entities throughout Illinois
  • Develop strategic partnerships with major corporations that have diversity programs and encourage them to establish procurement goals for contracting with minority-owned businesses.
  • Facilitate workshops, matchmaking events and procurement opportunities for black business owners
  • Maintain an in-house database of MBE certified vendors for opportunities in various industries throughout Illinois

“The energy, passion and grind that Ms. Jones brings to the BCCI family is electrifying and will prove to be an asset for Black Businesses in Illinois, this committee will allow BCCI to effectively build Black business capacities for procurement opportunities in both public and privates sectors within the State of Illinois. ” said William Burch, Chair of the BCCI Board of Directors.
